Vintage Pop

Off late, I've been obsessively looking at Katy Perry's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RMQksXpQSk

Why, you ask? The combination of fashion, graphic design, craft, and the groovy retro styling just has me drooling! I dream of working on such a video someday..
Meanwhile, I've been dreaming of tulle, making the old flower crowns, and finding vintage bags on the street.

How goes it with you folks? The October heat is killing us here in Mumbai, praying for the sweet winter and Diwali, with it!

Transitional Post

I had stopped blogging for the longest time I ever have. I do not want to sound like an erratic undependable girl, here, so I will tell you instead, what I've been up to.

I started taking Visual Communication and Design more seriously, ever since I started my Masters Course at IDC, IIT Bombay. Though I dressed more fashionably and creatively than I ever had in my everyday life, the focus just wasn't me anymore. There seemed to be a world full of things I didn't know, that I hadn't experienced, and that seemed so much bigger than me. And so little time!

So I reasoned that I just couldn't blog anymore. And when I went to Ladakh to shoot a documentary, for about 2 months, (1 month there, and 1 month back, but under its spell), I almost forgot all about it. And I thought my life was going on, well and fine.

But something was missing. It took me this long to realize what it was. It was this. This expired domain name, the stagnant blog, and a whole side of me, that went along with it.

So I have promised myself I'll be back. But with a slightly different focus. It's not just me, but everything that's around me. Everything that I love, everything that I revel in. And so I'm back to the old name, 'Shubhi's Revels', the name I started with in January 2012, when I was still pegging away at Computer Engineering, desperate to fly out.

I'll be posting what I wear, of course. Nothing much has changed, I'm still the old colaba-causeway linking road and any other street you can give me kind of shopping girl. And online shops have given a whole new dimension to my internet distraction. I've realized the strong interlinks between fashion , art,  and design, all the more strongly now. And I'm still pretty crazy with what I wear, and crazier with what I do, in general.

So hello, and apologies! I'm still in the process of fixing the URLs and the new website design.

Lots of love to you all who missed me. This post is for you guys.

Berry Freeze!

The previous week found me rushing back from Pune(Where I had gone for a friend's engagement ceremony) to attend an event in Bandra that I could not miss-The Cafe Coffee Day Style Icon Meet!

It was a fun filled event, where we were styled, made up, and were photo-ready by evening. I had a blast, catching up with my fellow bloggers, and met some new and interesting people as well! Smita and Anisha were the stylists for the evening, from "Amaze Styling". They had a host of looks ready for us, all corresponding to the CCD Brain Freezers theme! 'Brain Freezers' are a new range of cool slushes from CCD, and come in four different flavours.

Clothes by "Roxxy" & "Superdry" and Hair & Make up Partner "Marvie Ann Beck" styled by "Amaze Styling"

My theme was the Berry Freezer, which is why I am so pink! Of course, we were given unlimited Brain Freeze Slushes, which was perfect for the sultry Mumbai afternoon!

I am travelling to Ladakh, for shooting a photo documentary, soon. Will keep you guys updated!
Love.

Party at Pizza Express

Last Friday found me heading to Bandra for Dayle's Blog - Birthday bash. She has a fabulous blog called StyleFile which turned 3 this year! How cute!

The party was hosted at Pizza Express, which is a UK-based gourmet Italian restaurant, specializing in super thin-crust, melt-in-your mouth pizzas!

The dress code was monochrome, so I ended up wearing my new street-shopped striped jacket! I had to dress in a hurry, as I rushed after class to the party. And co-incidentally, the chefs at the restaurant had the very same stripe-patterned uniform! But im not the type that gets easily embarrassed, so we all made jokes out of it :P

This, as you know by now, is the band of Mumbai Bloggers! Dayle looked really pretty in her peplum white dress(That's her in the center), and (almost) everyone came dressed according to the code!

We had a fun time designing our own pizzas, with custom toppings! The day ended with delecious desserts, consisting of Chocolate Mousse, Cheesecake, and Banofee Pie. Yumfest!! Here's to more such parties in the future!

Love.

After coming to Design School, my life has changed so much. In so many ways. Sartorially.

Earlier, I had heaps of clothes I wouldn't dream of wearing, out of the picture frame for my blog. But a good part of being in a creative field is that it encourages you to express, in all ways possible. And so all the wacky or trendy street buys or clothes from Forever21 gradually became a part of my regular day wear.

Which is why, blogging about fashion doesn't come naturally to me anymore. Which is not to say that I will stop posting here, at all. But as far as fashion or styling tips go, I would just say, wear what you Feel. Wear what you're comfortable in. Dare yourself. Experiment sometimes.

This blog has become more about theme-based photographs than me or my fashion sense, and in some ways, I am happy about that. I am content to let the trees and the creepers behind me, take center-stage. Because there is nothing as beautiful as them!

I want to move on to more serious photography, which I eventually will as soon as my photography equipment fall into place. And I will of course, keep posting here meanwhile.

Love always.

The INGLOT Blogger's Meet

INGLOT cosmetics, an amazing international makeup brand, hosted a fun-filled evening with bloggers at their Phoenix store recently. The theme was supposedly 'Valentine's Day', but I got there sans any pink and red accessories, thankfully.

Namrata Hariani, Brand Manager, Inglot Cosmetics and Lisa Munlua, Inglot’s Make-up expert unveiled Inglot’s new 'berry' collection which will hit the stores next week.
We were asked to submit our names in little chits at the beginning of the evening. Later on, we discovered that it was for Lisa to try her magic makeup on!

So the first name from the box turned out to be...mine! I was picked for the super soft, and romantic Valentine's look!

Here is what it looks like..

Now I'm not much of a makeup girl, but I did agree that it works wonders for the face! I felt like a celeb when I looked into the mirror and couldn't recognize myself anymore! INGLOT's HD makeup range especially looks good in flash-photographs!

The evening ended on a happy note with everyone going back with hampers of INGLOT products!
Also, special thanks to the people at PR  Pundit for making the evening so much fun!

I'm currently busy working on a design portfolio to land internships! Its a lot of work, and I'm hardly getting any sleep. What are you up to this week?
Lots of Love.
Shubhi!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day dear readers! And though I'm not an obsessively pink-candy-heart-rose kind of a person, I do love this day to bits!

Besides spending time with your significant other (If you want to), here's what you can do this V-Day.

1. Take a bunch of roses for an old friend, surprise them!
2. Call up your parents randomly, to wish them and say that you care.
3. Spend time with a group of old friends, something you don't do in your busy life.
4. Bake a batch of cookies for your pet cat or dog. Or feed some stray animals or birds.
5.Feed a hungry child.
6. Water a withering tree or plant.

..and whatever else you can think of, a gesture that shows that you love and care.
If you are alone and have time on your hands, here's what you can do. You can write yourself a love note! Put on your favourite music, get out your craft supplies and old scraps of paper and cloth, and make your own special love letter.

You can start with 'Dear Beloved' and the like, and write about how much you love yourself, what you love about yourself, and so on :)

This is an exercise we did in class a few days back, it was both a creative and an uplifting experience!
Here's what I made.

Go all out with it, and be as creative as you can!
It will serve as a beautiful reminder of your love, years later.

Love.
